Lincoln police and fire personnel responded Friday night to a 16-year-old Lincoln resident who crashed the vehicle he was driving into the side of Lincoln Food Mart

A 16-year-old Lincoln resident drove his vehicle into Lincoln Food Mart on Friday night, according to police.

At 9:49 p.m., Lincoln Police officers responded to the area of East Avenue and McBean Park Drive on the report of a single-vehicle collision, according to Lincoln Police Sgt. Jeff Morse.

Officers found a vehicle had collided into Lincoln Food Mart at 415 A St., according to Morse.

The driver, a 16-year-old Lincoln resident, was the sole occupant of the vehicle and was extricated by the Lincoln Fire Department, Morse said.

The driver was then transported via ambulance to an area hospital for treatment of his injuries, Morse said.

Lincoln Police Chief Paul Shelgren said the 16-year-old’s condition was stable, as of Saturday. He did not have an update on his condition, as of press time.

The cause of the collision is still under investigation and “won’t be known for a couple weeks,” Shelgren said Tuesday.

The building’s owner, Joanne Neft, said Tuesday that a dollar amount for the damage to the Lincoln Food Mart is not known. Neft said her insurance company will be determining the total damage in the next few days.

As for preventing another incident like Friday night’s, Neft called it “one of those phantom in the night things.”
