Cindy Hagman, choir director at Lincoln High School, discusses the upcoming alumni concert with Laura Chilson, a Lincoln High School graduate who will perform as an alumnus during Friday’s concert. Also pictured is Chilson’s daughter, Macie Chilson, 7.

Know and Go: The alumni concert will take place Friday at the Lincoln High School Theater, 790 J. St. Doors open at 6: 30 p.m. and showtime is 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for children 12 and under. The proceeds will be used to help the current Lincoln High School Select Choir travel to Anaheim this year.

Some familiar voices will grace the Lincoln High School theater Friday because an alumni choir will be performing that night.

Cindy Hagman, choir director at Lincoln High School, has assembled a choir of about 35 former choir members who attended Lincoln High School between 1997 and 2009.

“The idea came about to reunite a lot of the talented singers who have graduated from Lincoln High School,” Hagman said. “It’s really enjoyable seeing some of my former students and where they are today, seeing they’re still interested in music.”

According to Hagman, some of her students have used their musical experience professionally, such as on stage or running karaoke on a cruise ship. She also said some students have studied music in college.

“We have a lot of talent,” Hagman said.

She said Friday’s concert will have two parts. The first part will be a collection of solos and ensemble performances by the alumni. The second part will consist of performances by both the alumni choir and current Lincoln High School choir members.

There will also be songs performed by a combination of the alumni choir and current choir members.

“I’m super excited, it’ll be really great to see everyone and perform with them,” said Laura Chilson (maiden name Funk), who is in the alumni choir.

Chilson said she still loves to sing, and said she’s looking forward to “being able to use what talent I have.” She is hoping to perform a duet during Friday’s concert.

Hagman is hoping performances by the alumni choir will be a yearly event, and would like to have choir members from as far back as possible participate.
