Best and worst seen in golf-cart decision
The recent decision of the Lincoln City Council to continue allowing carts to cut through Fairway Valley in Lincoln Hills brought out the worst and best within the community. The council voted in the midst of what at times was an uncomfortable and embarrassing representation of residents who claimed to be protecting the rights of those that own golf carts within the community. Essentially, the council approved our street to become a third access point to the golf course and Orchard Creek Lodge, despite the county-recorded plans never referencing it for that intent. Members of the council failed to see the value of keeping unnecessary traffic out of residential neighborhoods and on to city streets that were designed for the use. But, as I mentioned, it also has brought out the best within the community. Many of us who live on the street and have been affected by the prior traffic problems have recently witnessed a reduction of traffic in the neighborhood and those who have decided to continue to use the street seem to be traveling slower. Where three of the five council members failed to see the value of controlling neighborhood traffic in our community, it appears that Sun City residents do. Mike & Valerie McElroy, Lincoln

I can certainly identify with the McElroy's since I live on a cul-de-sac, although outside of Sun City Lincoln Hills. Cul-de-sac lots carry with them significantly higher lot premiums, mainly because of the privacy that they provide. I think the Council got it wrong this time. Nevertheless, I hope the quality of life will improve for the residents of the affected village, and others will continue to be respectful.
