Smoking addiction no match for dedicated volunteers
Seven FieldHaven Feline Rescue volunteers and their supporters recently met at Kim’s Country Kitchen to kick off the “Chain Gang’s” first day of kicking the smoking habit. The volunteers pledged to quit smoking and donate some of the money they save by not purchasing cigarettes to the New Shelter Fund. Friends and supporters are joining that effort and sponsoring the individuals or group with a single donation or $10 a month for each month they stay “smoke free.” The nonprofit FieldHaven, mandated by Placer County to replace the old shelter, is raising funds for the new shelter. With the visibility they hope to achieve, volunteers will simultaneously raise funds while kicking a bad habit. Vicki “Scout” Valentine and Julie Anderson, FieldHaven Board members, attended the kickoff breakfast. “I continue to be amazed at the selfless giving of FieldHaven volunteers,” Anderson said. “This is a community of volunteers, almost like a family, who support the cats in need, the people needing FieldHaven’s help and each other.” To learn more about FieldHaven Feline Rescue, to follow the progress the “Chain Gang” is making, or to support them with donations, go online to FieldHaven.com. ~ Staff report
