Plane down at airport
A small plane went down shortly after 10:30 a.m. Tuesday as the pilot attempted to land at the Lincoln Regional Airport, said Airport Manager Dave Daly. No one was injured in the crash, which damaged the vintage aircraft's propeller, landing gear and left wingtip. "Everyone's OK," said Ellaison Phillips, a Roseville resident who was one of three passengers on the Cessna 195 piloted by Jerry Lajoie of San Mateo. Daly said Lajoie told him that the wind shifted as he landed, causing the plane to come down hard on one wheel, which then collapsed, causing the plane to skid. Emergency crews arrived on-scene, and a crane transported the aircraft off the runway by about noon. Brandon Darnell can be reached by e-mail at brandond@goldcountrymedia.com.
