Grass fire raises concerns

Lincoln firefighter Ron Olson puts water on steaming fence posts Tuesday morning to extinguish hot embers at the Nelson Road fire.

A grass fire Tuesday morning off of Nelson Lane and south of Nicolaus Road was human-caused and not accidental, according to officials.

Battalion Chief Greg Guyan of CalFire/Placer County Fire Department said the investigation is under way and more information will be available within a week.

The blaze burned a little more than an acre of grass and damaged some fencing, according to Guyan.

“We ask everyone to be cautious,” Guyan said, adding that there has been a recent rash of fires started by riding lawnmowers as property owners try to mow tall grass.

With the upcoming Fourth of July holiday, Guyan cautioned everyone to be careful when setting off fireworks and reminded county residents that fireworks are only legal within city limits. Fireworks are illegal in the county.
